Submissions

The Common Room is currently accepting submissions! We are an online magazine publishing literary and art criticism.

In general, we will require that in your paper you:

Analyze at least one primary source such as a book, movie, painting, or song.
Situate your analysis among other scholarship. Cite at least one source outside of your primary text.
Make connections to contemporary culture and politics. Tell our audience why your interpretation of this primary text matters, or how it can help us understand the current moment.
Be roughly ten pages or less. If your paper is longer, you can still submit and we will work with you to edit it down!
Use MLA citation style.
